L.A. Resilience Consulting works with businesses, local governments, and individual projects throughout Southern California.

GOT RESILIENCE?

Peak Oil, Climate Change, and Economic Contraction will affect any project you are currently planning.  Whether you are considering a business plan, developing a community plan, or constructing an individual landscaping project, your preparedness for the issues we face in the coming years will determine the long-term success or failure of your project.

The founders of L.A. Resilience Consulting have been working with the trio of problems -- together with their possible solutions -- since 2004.  They have assisted community projects throughout Southern California.

We can help you examine your project within the diverse panorama of human experience. We will help you consider urban issues, economic issues, and environmental issues, as well as the interrelated issues of culture change, community, and personal well-being.

  • understand the full magnitude of the problem.
Get up-to-date with the latest facts about peak oil, climate change, and economic forecasts, and what these might mean to you, your organization, and your business sector.
  • manage your risks.
Identify how these sweeping problems are likely to influence your project, identify your areas of greatest risk and vulnerability both short and long term, and consider potential solutions.
  • identify opportunities and potential adaptations for a resource- and energy-constrained world.  Increase resilience, the ability of your business or organization to flex and adapt, maintaining adequate functionality through shocks such as dramatically higher oil costs or disappearing capital financing.
  • create and deliver a new vision.
Engage the energy and creativity of your employees or planning team in imagining and delivering what may be a fundamentally different business or organizational model.

"How will peak oil affect my business?"  We can help you figure out what to do.

"Peak oil is an opportunity to pause, to think through our present course, and to adjust to a saner path for the future. ... Peak oil is a horrible predicament. It is also a wonderful opportunity to do a lot better. Let’s not squander this moment."

-- Albert Bates, the Post-Petroleum
Survival Guide and Cookbook

RADICAL
(derived from the Latin word radix, meaning root)
"We need to address issues at their fundamental root cause, not just the symptomatic manifestations."

-- Scott Kellogg, author of
Toolbox for Sustainable City Living

"I need a sounding-board!"  As you explore these ideas, we can help.

"The view from the top reconnects us with the wonder and majesty of the world and how it all fits together, but we cannot dally for long. We must take advantage of the view to chart our way down while we have favorable weather and daylight."

-- David Holmgren, Australian founder
of the Permaculture movement

Building resilience contains "the potential for an economic, cultural, and social renaissance the likes of which we have never seen."

-- Rob Hopkins, founder of the
international Transition movement

"Can you speak at my business group?"  We offer a speaker's bureau.

"We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them."

-- Albert Einstein

WHO WE ARE

Principal Joanne Poyourow was a C.P.A. in public practice for over 13 years, where she specialized in taxation and planning for large and small businesses.  In 2005, Poyourow co-founded the Environmental Change-Makers, a community group which examines the panorama of potential solutions to our environmental issues.  Poyourow is the initiator who brought the ideas of the international Transition movement to Los Angeles. The Transition movement considers how our society can adapt to peak oil, climate change, and economic contraction, and Poyourow carries this work forward with the core team of Transition Los Angeles.  Poyourow has designed community gardens and highly-productive edible landscapes as well as implementing a local bartering system.  She holds a degree in Business Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.  She is the author of the ebook "Economic Resilience," as well as two conventional books, and her blog writing is circulated internationally.

Our associates have a wide variety of extensive professional business and organizational experience.  Each of our associates is very active in our local Transition communities, and is thus well versed in the ideas of the Transition movement and how society can adapt to what lies ahead.

L.A. Resilience Consulting is operated using a social enterprise model.  Your support makes it possible for Transition Los Angeles to further its work.
